The 17th International Nuclear Physics Divisional Conference of the European
Physical Society will be held in Eilat, Israel from 14 to 18 January, 2002.
The conference is devoted to Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics.
The first circular, which was sent out late in 1999, can be found at this site. With this second circular we would like to invite you to register for the conference and to submit an abstract of your proposed scientific contribution. Please circulate this announcement to potentially interested colleagues, in particular younger physicists who may not yet be on our lists.


The conference will start on Monday 14 January, 2002, at 9:00 a.m. and end on Friday 18 January at noon, with Wednesday afternoon reserved for the conference excursion. Registration will be open on Sunday 13 January during the afternoon and on Monday 14 January between 8:00 a.m. and noon. The scientific program will be organised in the form of morning and afternoon sessions, consisting of invited lectures and selected contributions. There will be facilities for the display of posters. A preliminary schedule will be posted on our web site at a later date. Important information on the conference will be added to this site on a regular basis.

All participants interested in submitting a contributed talk or a poster must
submit an abstract for review, indicating whether it should be considered only
for a talk, only for a poster or if either would be acceptable. Those
wishing to resubmit a previously-submitted abstract should indicate this by
e-mail. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 20 November 2001. The
abstracts will be distributed as a booklet at registration. The abstract
should be submitted by e-mail, using the template supplied on the web site.



The official conference language is English. No translation facilities will be available, and all abstracts and manuscripts should be presented in English.



Proceedings of the conference, containing written versions of the invited and selected contributed papers, will be published. Each participant will receive a copy of the proceedings, the cost of which is included in the registration fee.
The format and maximum length of the manuscript will be communicated to each confirmed speaker. The manuscript must be submitted within six weeks of the conference.



Participants are requested to complete the registration form, which can be found on our web site or in ASCII form at the end of this message. The conference is supported largely by the registration fee, which is US$250 if paid before 20 November 2001. After that date a surcharge of US$40 will be required. This fee applies to Individual Ordinary Members of EPS and to members of affiliated National Societies. For non-members, the fee is $290 before 20 November 2001. There is a special reduced fee of $200 for students. The fee covers the conference badge and folder, participation in all the conference sessions, the booklet of abstracts, one copy of the proceedings, the welcome reception, all coffee breaks and the excursion on Wednesday, January 16. The conference fee does not cover the conference dinner on Thursday evening, January 17, which will cost US$45 per person.
The companion fee of US$120 covers the welcome reception, the excursion and two half-day tours during conference sessions.
In the event of cancellation of registration, a full refund less US$50 handling fee will be made provided written notification is received by FAX or e-mail by December 20. No refunds will be given after that date.

It is anticipated that participants will be accommodated at the Paradise Club Hotel,
where the scientific sessions will take place. The hotel is located within easy walking distance from the beach, the lagoon and the tourist center. Special rates have been negotiated with the conference hotel as follows:

US$ 73 per person per night in a double or twin room
US$ 106 per person per night in a single room

This rate includes full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Participants who choose to stay at other hotels but would like to have lunch at the conference hotel will have
the option of buying lunch tickets at US$ 9 per meal.

The accommodation can be booked through the secretariat. Reservations can be made by filling in the reservation form on the web site or at the end of this message. We strongly advise all participants to reserve their hotel accommodation as soon as possible. Unitours is unable to guarantee room reservations after December 14, 2001. Reservations must be accompanied by a deposit of US$ 110 per room, the balance will be charged at Unitours Hospitality Desk at the conference.
Deposits will be refunded, less an administrative charge of US$ 40 per room, for accommodations cancelled by fax or E-mail before December 14, 2001. Thereafter - no refund will be made. Substitutions may be made at any time.
In the event of a no-show, reservations will be released automatically by the hotel at 09:00 the following day.

A small number of very low-budget rooms may be available at the site of the Interuniversity Marine Biology Labratory in the southern part of Eilat.
The price will be approximately US$12 per person per night, in three bed rooms with attached bathroom facilities. The price does not include breakfast and the site is quite far from the conference hotel. Requests for accomodation in one of these rooms should be directed to the Organising Committee as soon as possible.



The weather in Eilat in January is generally sunny and warm during the day and cool at night. Temperatures range from 110C to 230C (520F to 740F). Dress is informal. Bring along a swimsuit. Headcover and comfortable shoes are recommended for touring. Citizens of most countries do not require a visa to visit Israel, but please check with your travel agent.

GUIDED TOUR FROM TEL AVIV TO EILAT (Full payment upon registration)
Departure on Sunday, January 13 from the Metropolitan Hotel Tel Aviv at 8:00 AM.
Enjoy the sites on the way to Eilat with a professional guide. Visit Sde Boker (BenGurion's Hut), Avdat, Mitzpe Ramon - the largest crater on earth, measuring 40 kms long, 9 kms wide and 400 meters deep -with a tour in the Visitor's Center.
Arrival in Eilat will be at approximately 5:00 PM.
Price per person one way: US$ 60 (based on min of 25 persons)

Option B

TRANSFER FROM TEL AVIV TO EILAT (Full payment upon registration)
On Sunday January 13 there will be a special bus departing from the Metropolitan Hotel, Tel Aviv to the Conference Venue, Eilat at 10:00 AM. (Approximately 5 hour drive)

Price per person: US$ 15 (based on a minimum of 25 persons)

Option C

FLIGHTS TO/FROM EILAT (Full payment upon registration)
If you are not flying directly to Eilat, we recommend that you book your flight from/to Eilat through your agent abroad at the same time you reserve your international flight. If you require assistance purchasing a ticket to/from Eilat you may contact Unitours the Official Travel Agent of the conference.

TRANSFER BY TAXI FROM BEN GURION AIRPORT TO EILAT (Full payment upon registration)
A taxi from the airport to Eilat may be reserved through Unitours. This service must be booked in advance and flight details must be forwarded one week prior to arrival.

PUBLIC TRANSFER
Public buses are available from the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station to the Central Bus Station in Eilat. It is recommended to reserve tickets a few days in advance by credit card at: +972-3-6948888 (Egged Information).

Rooms are being held at the Metropolitan Hotel in Tel Aviv, and possible tours have been planned, including a full-day tour to Petra, Jordan.
