3D GIS of Archaeological Excavation

(with Elena Zapassky, TAU and Israel Finkelstein, TAU)

The 3D GIS of archaeological excavation of tell Megiddo

We have developed 3D GIS of the archaelogical excavation and implemented it
for the on-going excavation of the famous Megiddo tell.
We divide excavated elements, represented by GIS features, into GIS layers
according to archaeological periods

In addition to the components of the standard GIS layers
(i.e map of features and linked tabular data) the developed
archaeological 3D GIS contains 3D features, each linked to a planar feature
representing the same geometric entity and to its database records.

The user can navigate and zoom based on related 2D-3D views as well as
execute standard GIS queries, including temporal ones
