Horvat Galil - an Early PPNB Site in the Upper Galilee, Israel

This report represents the preliminary findings from Horvat Galil located along the western Galilee coastline. The site was first tested in 1985 and excavated in 1986 and 1989 by the author, Avi Gopher, on behalf of the Institute of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University. Finds from the Hellenistic, Iron Age, Early Bronze Age, the Chalcolithic and the Neolithic periods were discovered. Little is known of the prehistoric Upper Galilee and especially of its western part. The excavation presented is TEL AVIV Volume 24 was part of a project attempting to find out how Neolithic populations exploited the rich region of the Mediterranean coastline.
