As an excavation proceeds, any architecture uncovered is immediately drawn, regardless of how fragmentary it is. By season's end, different phases or strata are separated and final plans are inked. Then begins the job of interpreting the structures that have been delineated. Are the buildings and spaces domestic or private, for storage or consumption, planned or not? Much of this work is also done digitally these days using programs such as Autocad and Microstation. Once again, a digitized plan is easier to manipulate and archive in the processes of analysis and publication. Architectural programs also allow one to propose reconstructions, to view them from different angles and to emplace the artifacts found in the architectural spaces.
