What is ALEPH and how does one use it from the network?

ALEPH is a fully integrated library package which includes an online public access catalog (OPAC). It is installed in all seven institutions of higher learning in Israel, where each has one or more independent OPACS, and all are connected in a library network also called ALEPH.

Users can switch from one OPAC to another once they are in the ALEPH network; the switch is handled transparently.

The ALEPH network also supports a central computer which contains the Union List of Serials in Israel Libraries (ULS), the Union List of Monographs in ALEPH (ULM). Cataloging records of the contributing libraries are sent to the central computer where the union lists are compiled. ULM and ULS are both accessible via Internet, as well as from any other OPAC within the network.

You can access ALEPH via TELNET. To gain access to any of the systems, you must TELNET to any one of the following university library computers:
