About Israel, Studies in Zionism and the State of Israel - History, Culture and Society

Until 2002, Zionism (Hatzionut) was the main Hebrew publication of the Chaim Weizmann Institute for the Study of Zionism at Tel Aviv University. It was established in 1970 in order to publish research on the history and ideology of the Zionist movement and the history of the Yishuv (pre-state Jewish community in Palestine). In recent years, it has also included studies on the State of Israel. The twenty-third and last volume of Zionism appeared in 2001.

From 2002, the journal is published twice a year and has extended its scope to include a wider range of topics relating to Israeli society and culture (sociology, foreign affairs, gender, literature, etc.). To reflect these changes, the journal's name has been changed to Israel, Studies in Zionism and the State of Israel - History, Culture and Society. A book review section has also been added in order to survey important works on these topics appearing both in Israel and abroad.

The previous editors of Zionism, since its establishment, have been: Professor Daniel Carpi, Professor Gedalia Yogev, Professor Matityahu Mintz, Professor Yaacov Shavit, Dr. Aviva Halamish, Dr. Shalom Ratzabi and Professor Yosef Gorny. The current editor of "Israel" is Dr. Meir Chazan. The editorial board is composed of the following members: Dr. Avi Bareli, Professor Nurith Gertz, Dr. Avner Horowitz, Professor Hannah Naveh, Dr. Shalom Ratzabi and Dr. David Tal.
