בראשית הקורס תהיה חזרה אינטנסיבית על הקטגוריות הדקדוקיות הראשיות ואחריה העמקת הלימוד של מערכת הפועל על כל היבטיה. יושם דגש לא רק על הבנת מבנה הלשון, אלא גם על שינון הפרדיגמות. אחרי כן נעסוק בתחביר, למשל המשפט השמני והפעלי לסוגיו. הטכסטים שנקרא הם בעיקר מכתבים בבליים עתיקים מצפון בבל וכן כתובות מלכותיות שרובן בניב הבבלי הספרותי. את הכתובות אלה, שהן של מלכי אשור מהתקופה הסרגונידית, נקרא בכתב היתדות האשורי החדש.

Advanced Akkadian

צAt the beginning of the course we shall conduct an intensive repetition of the main grammatical categories. This will be followed by deepening of the study of all the aspects of the verbal system. The emphasis is not only on the understanding of the language structure, but also full acquaintance with the paradigms. Later on, points of syntax will be studied, e.g. the nominal and verbal sentence. The texts read in this course are mainly Old Babylonian letters from northern Babylonia as well as royal inscriptions mostly in Standard Babylonian. These inscriptions, which are of Assyrian kings, will be read in Neo-Assyrian cuneiform.
