סילבוס הארכיאולוגיה של סוריה באלף הראשון לפנה"ס

נתעמק באינטראקציה הלובית – ארמית – אשורית בסוריה במחצית הראשונה של האלף הראשון. האופי המונומנטלי של הממצאים בסוריה, וריבוי התיעוד הכתוב, הביאו לכך שבאופן מסורתי לא התמקד מחקר תקופת הברזל בארץ זו בהיבטים הארכיאולוגיים היבשים יותר – סטרטיגרפיה, כרונולוגיה קרמית, והתמונה היישובית העולה מסקר ארכיאולוגי. מצב זה החל להשתנות לפני כעשרים שנה, ותוצאות ראשונות של המחקרים החדשים יוצאות עתה לאור בקצב ניכר. נעסוק בחידושים אלו, ובד בבד גם בתגליות ידועות מכבר – מבנים מונומנטליים, אומנות מונומנטלית וכתובות, ובהקשריהם הארכיאולוגיים.

The archaeology of Syria in the first millennium B.C

We will survey the Luwian – Aramaic – Assyrian interaction in Syria in the early first millennium. The monumental character of the finds from Syria, and the proliferation of the ancient texts uncovered, led to a diminished role in Syria of the ‘traditional’ facets of archaeology – stratigraphy, ceramic typology, and the settlement picture raising from archaeological surveys. This situation began to change in the last two decades, and first results of the new studies are now published in a rising tempo. We will deal with these new discoveries and insights, and at the same time with long-known monumental buildings, sculptures and inscriptions, and their archaeological contexts.
