סילבוס כתובות עבריות מימי בית ראשון (אפיגרפיה עברית ושמית מערבית)

נלמד על ראשית הכתב העברי והתפתחותו במחצית הראשונה של האלף הראשון לפני הספירה, זאת על רקע הכתיבה האלפביתית השמית–מערבית בכלל ומקורותיה באלף השני. נבחן את ההקשר הארכיאולוגי של הכתובות שהתגלו ואת התהליכים החברתיים והמדיניים שהובילו להתפתחותם של הכתבים הנזכרים. אם ייוותר זמן נעסוק גם בצאצאיו הראשונים של האלפבית השמי–מערבי, הלא הם האלפביתים של חצי האי ערב, פריגיה ויוון מראשית האלף הראשון.

Hebrew inscriptions of the First Temple period

We will learn about the early Hebrew script and its development in the first half of the first millennium B.C., all this on the background of West Semitic alphabetic writing at large and its second-millennium origins. We will examine the archaeological context of the inscriptions, as well as the social and political processes that have led to the development of the said scripts. If time permits, we will also address the first offspring of the West Semitic alphabet – the Arabian, Phrygian and Greek alphabets of the early first millennium.
