סילבוס מבוא לארכיאולוגיה קלאסית ושל ארץ-ישראל בתקופות הקלאסיות

שיעור זה מהווה שילוב בין הארכיאולוגיה הקלאסית של העולם היווני והרומי בכלל וזאת של ארץ-ישראל. מטרת השיעור היא להציג את ההיבטים השונים של הארכיאולוגיה בשילוב עם המטען התרבותי של העולם הקלאסי, היווני והרומי. השיעור מחולק לשלושה חלקים. החלק הראשון (הקצר יותר) יעסוק בהיבטים המקצועיים של הארכיאולוגיה הן כעבודת שדה והן כדיסציפלינה חברתית. תינתן סקירה של התפתחות הארכיאולוגיה בדורות האחרונים בהתייחס לרקע החברתי, הפוליטי והאידיאולוגי. החלק השני (המורחב יותר) של השיעור יעסוק בתחומים השונים של הארכיאולוגיה הקלאסית, דהיינו: ארכיטקטורה, קרמיקה ותחומים אמנותיים (פיסול, ציור, אמנות זעירה). כמו-כן, יוצגו תחומי העזר של הארכיאולוגיה הקלאסית, בעיקר הנומיסמטיקה (חקר המטבעות) והאפיגרפיה (חקר הכתובות). על-סמך המטען המוגש בשיעור תוצג תמונה של חיי היום-יום של העולם הקלאסי. החלק השלישי המוקדש לארץ-ישראל יעסוק בכל הנושאים הללו מההיבט הארץ-ישראלי על-פי הסדר הכרונולגי של התקופות ההלניסטית, הרומית והביזאנטית ויחסה למקורות הכתובים (כגון: תנ"ך, הברית החדשה, כתבי יוסף בן מתתיהו, ספרי המכבים, היסטוריה אוגוסטה, משנה, תלמוד, אבות הכנסייה).נעסוק בעיור, ביצורים, אמנות, קרמיקה, מטבעות, כתובות. העיור של הורדוס המלך: קיסריה, סמריה-סבסטה, אפק-אנטיפטריס; בית-המקדש והעיר ירושלים; מבצרי וארמונות מדבר יהודה; קרמיקה מתקופת הורדוס ובני-ביתו. "ארכיאולוגיה" של שתי המרידות של היהודים נגד הרומאים: שכבת החורבן של תקופת המרד הגדול וחשיבותה הארכיאולוגית. ארץ-ישראל כארץ הקודש לנצרות בתקופה הביזנטית.

Introduction to Classical Archaeology and to Archaeology of the Land of Israel in Classical Times
This introduction is a presentation of archaeological aspects of the Greek and Roman world vis-א-vis their impact on the Land of Israel from the Persian period (5th century BCE) onwards. Its main aim is to present the realia (archaeological reality) in order to help at a better understanding of the ancient civilizations. The course is divided into three parts. The first one is devoted to main aspects of archaeology in general and Classical archaeology in particular, referring to technical background of the archaeological work and its development from the Middle ages up to-day, including cultural, ideological and political aspects. The second part deals with the main aspects of Classical archaeology according to its main fields, namely architecture, pottery and art. Also auxiliary aspects are presented, such as epigraphy and numismatics. The third part of the course is a presentation of the archaeological reality of the Land of Israel during the Classical periods (mainly the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine) against the background of the Oriental culture in general and the Jewish culture in particular, as reflected by written sources as well, such as the Bible, the New Testament, Josephus Flavius' writings, Books of Maccabees, Mishna, Talmud, Christian Fathers etc. The course will deal with building techniques, urbanization, fortifications, public and private buildings, cultural material, art etc. Some of the main sites will be presented as case studies, such as Jerusalem, Caesarea, Beth Shean (Scythopolis) etc. "Archaeology" of the struggle between Jews and gentiles will also be presented such as the Maccabean wars, the First and Second Jewish War against the Romans.
