סילבוס Theories and Methods of the Humanities: Approaches toward a Philosophy of History

(קורס מספר 06592070)

סמינר

Prof. Wilhelm Schmidt-Biggemann

הקורס יתקיים באנגלית ויכלול כשבעה מפגשים של 4 שעות כל אחד בחודשים פברואר - אפריל
שיעור ראשון יתקיים ביום ב' 21.2 בשעה 14-18 בחדר 450

The lectures will address the following topics:

- Humanities and „Geisteswissenschaften“: the different approaches the continental and the Anglophone world to the subject of history
- What is an event? Here the outlines Heidegger’s Book “Vom Ereignis” will be presented as a focus of a philosophy of history.
- Temporality and representation of experiences: a phenomenology of everyday usage of temporal and historical structures.
- Event, narrativity and history: An event becomes only conceivable if it is represented in a narrative. Narratives deliver the structures of linguistic and logical theories.
- History and historiography: Although history is real, it is only conceivable as narrative. It is only in a narrative that history receives its meaning.
- Historiography, Poetry and Theory. Historiography is an intentional act, how can it be distinguished from poetry? What kind of truth can be expected?
- Hermeneutics and rational reconstruction. What does one understand if one reads history? What kind of hermeneutics is required? Is it more appropriate to speak about rational reconstruction of history?
