סילבוס סוגיות בתורת ההכרה בהודו

מהי ידיעה? מהי תפיסת חושים? מהי טעות ומהי אשליה? כיצד השיבה הפילוסופיה ההודית על השאלות הללו? במהלך השיעור נסקור דיונים שנערכו החל מסביבות אמצע האלף הראשון לספירה בין המסורת הבודהיסטית לבין מסורת הניאיה בנושא תורת ההכרה. מטרתנו תהיה לברר אילו סוגיות הכרתיות תפסו את קדמת הבמה של הדיון הפילוסופי ההודי ומדוע דווקא הן. בנוסף, נבקש לעשות שימוש במהלכים השוואתיים במטרה לברר האם העמדות ההכרתיות שנדונו במסגרת הדיון ההודי עשויות להיות רלבנטיות ולהאיר סוגיות אקטואליות שבהם דנה הפילוסופיה המערבית.

Debates in Indian Philosophy over Epistemological Issues

How can a case of veridical sense–perception be distinguished from a case of perceptual error? And what constitutes the difference between the above two phenomena and a case of perceptual doubt? What kinds of answers were given to these questions by Indian thinkers? During the course we will examine debates that were held between the Nyגya philosophical tradition and the Buddhist tradition dating to the second half of the first millennia CE. Our main goal will be to expose the unique ways in which Nyגya and Buddhist thinkers suggested to confront epistemological issues. We will also try to find out if the solutions suggested by Indian thinkers to epistemological problems can be relevant to clarify pertinent questions that contemporary western philosophy faces.
