סילבוס קריאה מודרכת א`

המטרה המרכזית של תרגיל "קריאה מודרכת א'" הינה הקניית ופיתוח יכולות ההתמודדות עם טקסט פילוסופי, בכתב ובע"פ. בהנחייתם של מתרגלי הקורס, עורכים הסטודנטים קריאה צמודה באחד מהטקסטים הפילוסופים המכוננים של העת המודרנית "הגיונות על הפילוסופיה הראשונית" לרנה דיקרט.
הקריאה המודרכת בטקסט מתחקה אחר כמה ממהלכי המחשבה המרכזיים בהגותו של דיקרט, לרבות שימושו בטיעונים ספקניים לשם ההגעה אל הוודאות הבלתי מעורערת בדבר קיומו של ה'אני' כ'דבר חושב'. תוך כדי כך, נחשפים הסטודנטים אל כמה מהמאפיינים שמייחדים את הכתיבה הפילוסופית, ומחדדים את רגישותם לגבי האסטרטגיה הטיעונית של הטקסט, הנחות היסוד המובלעות בו, המבנה הלוגי והרטורי שלו, וכן מגוון ההקשרים – פילוסופים, היסטורים, ואחרים – שבהם הוא עומד, ושעשויים להאירו ולהעשיר את הקריאה בו.
התרגיל שם דגש מיוחד על התנסות פעילה, בעל-פה ובכתב. שיעורי התרגיל מתנהלים כדיון, במהלכו זוכה התלמיד לפענח ואף להתעמת עם עמדותיו שלו-עצמו, כמו גם עם עמדותיהם של חבריו לכיתה. באופן זה חווה הסטודנט דיון פילוסופי חי, ולומד לקחת בו חלק פעיל.
מטרה נוספת של השיעור היא הקניית מיומנויות-בסיס בכתיבתן של עבודות אקדמיות. במהלך הקורס נדרש התלמיד לכתוב מספר תרגילים קצרים, בעזרתם הוא מתנסה בחילוץ הטיעונים והתובנות שעולים מהקריאה בטקסט, כמו גם בניסוח מחשבות וביקורת עליהן. בתוך כך, ותוך דיאלוג מתמשך עם מתרגל-הקורס, הוא לומד להכיר את הכללים ואמות המידה המאפיינים כתיבת עבודה אקדמית.

דרישות הקורס: נוכחות חובה; הגשת מטלות שבועיות בהתאם להנחיות המתרגל.
התרגיל מסתיים בבחינה. ציונו הסופי של התרגיל מורכב מציון הבחינה המסכמת ומציוני התרגילים, אותם הגיש התלמיד במהלך הסמסטר.

Guided Reading "A": Course Description

The primary aim of the 'Guided reading' course is to develop the various skills that are involved in reading and assessing philosophical texts. Under the supervision of the course instructors, the students perform a close and careful examination of one of the central texts of modernity, Descartes's "Meditations". Naturally, such a detailed reading, followed by a class discussion, enables the students to reach a better understanding of Cartesian philosophy. But moreover, it acquaints them with some central aspects of the practice of philosophy in general, mainly in its ongoing engagement with reading and interpreting texts. Descartes's canonical text thus serves also to exemplify the different strategies which are generally employed when approaching philosophical texts. The course stresses the importance of exposing the logical, argumentative, structure of the text, its implicit assumptions and commitments, as well as its rhetoric, its appeal to linguistic devices, and also the various contexts wherein it can be posited, and which might deepen our understanding thereof.
The course also stresses the importance of actively partaking in the "philosophical experience". This is achieved through class discussions – where the student is confronted not only with her own opinions, but also with those of her class-mates – as well as through short written assignments which the students are asked to submit throughout the semester. These written assignments are where the student gets to practice her academic writing skills, articulate her thoughts, extract and critically assess various kinds of philosophical arguments. These assignments serve also as a means to establishing an ongoing philosophical dialogue with the course instructor, whose weekly comments and feedback have proven valuable for one's personal progress in philosophy.

The course ends with an exam. The final grade is composed of the final exam, together with the grades awarded for the short assignments throughout the semester.
