א. רציונל הקורס ומטרותיו
המפגש בין חלשים (עניים, מיעוטים אתניים וגזעיים, מיעוטים לאומיים, קבוצות פריפריאליות, נשים, צעירים, זקנים) לחזקים (קבוצות הגמוניות למיניהן), יתפתח כמעט תמיד על בסיס יחסי כוח ומאבק. במקרה הטוב יסתיים עימות ביצירת קווי שיח משותפים. במקרה הרע הוא יסתיים בפרצי התקוממות ואלימות, או מה שנפוץ יותר, בשימוש מגוון ב"נשק החלשים", כגון דבקות במסורות פרטיקולריות, נאמנות עזה למקום או ל"מולדת הקטנה", שימור אגדות עם, קיום פולחנים קמאיים, התנכרות לתרבות ההגמונית, אדישות, התחמקות, שמועות, רכילות, הומור, מחאה גלויה ועוד, השוחקים מבפנים את הסדר הקיים. קווי השיח המשותפים וקווי הסתרתו, הם מעניינו של הקורס שלפנינו. באמצעות ניתוחם התוכני, התחבירי והרטורי על שלל היצגיהם, נבקש לעמוד על הנסיבות שבהן עשוי השיח הסמוי להגיע למצבי התפרצות, שבכוחם להניע תהליכי שינוי עמוקים, והנסיבות שבהן עשוי הטקסט הגלוי, על כל הסכנות הכרוכות בשימוש בו, לתמוך אף הוא בתהליכי שינוי, מבלי שיסגיר את בעליו, החוששים שמא יבולע להם. חלקו התיאורטי של הקורס יתבסס על ספריו האנתרופולוג ג'יימס סקוט (Scott), מחלוצי ניתוח 'שפת החלשים'.

ב. חובות הקורס
קריאה שוטפת של חומרי החובה של הקורס וניתוחם הביקורתי; קריאת ספר וניתוחו; בחינה מסכמת.
1. הגשת ניתוח ביקורתי על אחד מחומרי הקריאה התיאורטיים של הקורס (הסברים מפורטים בנספח): 5%.
2. ניתוח יצירת ספרות יפה או עיונית רלוונטית: 15%.
3. נוכחות בהרצאות ומעורבות התהליך הלמידה: 10%.
4. הגשת רפרט: 10%.
5. עבודה סמינריונית: 60%.

Public and Hidden Transcripts in Power Relations and Social Resistance

The encouter between the weak (the poor, ethnic and national minorities, groups from the periphery, women, youth and the elderly) and the strong (the hegemony) nearly always revolves around power relations and struggle. In the optimal case, a conflict results in the emergence of common denominators. Yet, it can also end in bursts of rebelion and violence or, what is more common, in a use of a range of "the weapons of the weak", such as clinging to traditions, fierce loyalty to the place and "the little homeland", preserving folktales, practicing ancient rituals, ignoring the hegemonic culture, indifference, avoidance, rumours, humor, open protest, etc. All of these behaviors erode the existiing order from within. The course discusses the two approaches. Via content, syntax and rhetoric analysis, the circumstances when the hidden discourse might reach a bursting point, which can generate deep change processes, are explored and the circumstannces when the public transcript might support such processes are studied. The theoretical part of the course is based on books by anthropologist James Scott, a pioneer scholer of the "weaks' weapons".

Course Requirements and Grading
Analysis of one of the courses' reading materials (5% of the course grade); Active participation in the discussions (10% of the course grade); Cover to cover reading and critically analyzing of a relevant book (15% of the course grade); Presentation on the final project's topics (10% of the course grade); a final project (60% of the course grade).
