סילבוס מוסד המשפחה בין יהדות לציונות: היסטוריה, תרבות ומגדר

מטרת קורס זה היא לבחון את תפיסת המשפחה ביהדות ובציונות ואת השינויים שחלו בתפיסות אלה בהקשרים היסטוריים ותרבותיים. נדון בתמורות שחלו במבנה המשפחה, בתפקידיה ובהגדרתה למן ימי הביניים ועד לעידן המודרני. נבחן את מקומם המשתנה של האב והאם במסגרת המשפחתית, את היחסים בין הורים לבין צאצאיהם, ואת חובותיהם של ילדים כלפי הוריהם. הדיון יתמקד במשפחה היהודית והציונית, אך נדון במבט השוואתי גם בחברות נוצריות ומוסלמיות. הקורס ידון בשאלות כגון: מהן הסיבות למעמדה המיוחד של המשפחה ביהדות ואילו תמורות חלו בתפקידים שמילאה בחיי הקהילה ובשימור מסגרת החיים היהודית; כיצד השפיעה ההגירה הגדולה משלהי המאה ה-19 על מקומה של המשפחה בקהילות היהודיות ועל תפקידיה; מה טיבו של זיהוי המשפחה עם הספרה הפרטית וכיצד זיהוי זה אפשר את חלוקת התפקידים המגדרית במסגרת המשפחה; מה תפקידה של המשפחה במהפכות לאומיות בכלל ובציונות בפרט; מה היה מקומה הייחודי של המשפחה בפרויקט הציוני בהקשר לאומי וסוציאליסטי.

The Institution of the Family between Judaism and Zionism: History, Culture and Gender

The course will examine the concepts of the family within Judaism and Zionism and the cultural and historical contexts of these concepts and the changes they underwent. We shall discuss the changes in the family structure, the changing roles and definitions of parenthood, and the relations between parents and children from the middle-ages to modern and post-modern times.
The discussion will focus on the Jewish and Zionist family but we shall also adopt comparative methods and examine Christian and Moslem concepts of the family. The course will examine the following questions: the reasons for the special role of the family within Judaism; the impact of the great immigration on Jewish families since the late 19th century; the process of the gendering of the private-family sphere and its economic and social implications; the role of the family within national revolutions in general and Zionism specifically; the special role of the family in the socialist-nationalist context of Zionism.
