סילבוס ביות או הזרה: סוגיות בתרגום

קורס זה יוקדש לשאלה שהטרידה מתרגמים וחוקרי תרגום במשך מאות בשנים: האם יש "לביית" טקסט מתורגם, כך שיתאים לקהל היעד, או שמא יש להשאיר אותו בזרותו, ולהביא את קהל היעד אליו, כביכול.
הסטודנטים יתבקשו לחקור תרגומים שונים ולבדוק איזו דרך הם נוקטים, מה שיטות הפעולה ליישום הביות של טקסט, ואיך ניתן להשאיר טקסט בזרותו בלי שהדבר יפגע בקריאותו. הסטודנטים יוזמנו להציע הצעות תרגום משלהם, משני הסוגים. הטקסטים שייבדקו הם טקסטים מתורגמים מספרות צרפתית. אם ישתתפו בקורס תלמידי תרגום משפות אחרות, ייבדקו גם טקסטים משפות אחרות.

נוכחות חובה.
בסיום הקורס תוגש עבודת רפרט או עבודה סמינריונית עד לתאריך 23.5.10.

Domesticate or Foreignize?

This course will ask a question that has been troubling translators and translation research for generations: should a source text be “domesticated”, brought home to the reading public, or should it be left foreign, forcing the readers to travel and reach it, so to speak.
The students will be asked to study translations and see which way they have taken, what are the domestication methods used, how can one leave a text in its foreign-ness without impairing its readability. They will be invited to offer translations of both types.
The texts studied will be literary translations from French. If other translation students participate, other source languages will be studied as well.
The final work will be a report of one's research or a seminary paper.
