Translating the Bible
No book has been more often translated than the Bible, which was translated into a huge number of languages, often more than once. Why? What is the cultural significance of translating the Bible into a given language? What difficulties are faced by those undertaking the task, and how did various translators deal with them through the ages? What is the difference between a Jewish and a Christian Bible translation? What is the importance of Bible translations in the history and theory of translation? This seminary will address the complex historical, cultural and theoretical questions of Bible translations in various settings, cultures and times.
