קלאסיקה גרמנית

בתחילת המאה התשע-עשרה עלתה גרמניה לראשונה על במת הספרות העולמית, עם סופרים ומשוררים כמו גיתה, שילר ואחרים, שיצירותיהם תופסות עד היום מקום מרכזי בקאנון הספרותי הכללי. הקורס יעסוק בספרות הגרמנית בתקופה הקלאסית הזאת, על רקע הקשריה התרבותיים וההיסטוריים. נסקור את הרקע להתגבשות התרבות הגרמנית, ובאסכולות ספרותיות כגון ההשכלה, הסער והדחף, הקלאסיקה והרומנטיקה. פרק נרחב יוקדש ליצירתו של הסופר והמחזאי היינריך פון קלייסט (1777-1811), שיצירתו עדיין מרתקת קוראים וחוקרי ספרות בגרמניה ומחוצה לה. German Classics
In the early 19th century, with poets and writers such as Goethe, Schiller and others, whose works are part and parcel of the global literary cannon even today, German literature made its first appearance on the European literary stage. This class will deal with German literature during this period, against its cultural and historical background. We shall consider the background for the emergence of the German literary culture, including schools like the Enlightenment, the Sturm und Drang, Classics and Romantics. Consequently, we shall focus on the short stories of Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811), whose work still fascinates numerous readers in Germany and beyond.
