גילוי וכיסוי בלשון השירה

כל שירה העוסקת במציאות עליונה (מטאפיסית), נסתרת או אי רציונאלית, מתמודדת התמודדות "חזיתית" עם קשיי הבעתה בכלים המושגיים של הלשון. הלשון המושגית קשורה קשר הדוק אל מה ששרוי בגבולות ההשגה השכלית שלנו, ומה שמצוי מעבר לגבולות ההכרה השכלית שלנו הוא לפיכך בגדר הבלתי ניתן להבעה (The Ineffable). מכאן מתחייבת לכאורה קביעתו הידועה של ויטגנשטיין, ש"על מה שאי אפשר לדבר – על זה יש לשתוק". והנה, המשוררים בכל התקופות לא רק שאינם שותקים, אלא הם מתמודדים שוב ושוב עם הבעתו של המיסתורי, האי רציונאלי, הבלתי ניתן להבעה. השיעור ייוחד לעיון בטקסטים אשר נותנים ביטוי למציאות אחרת, שמעבר לגבולותיו של העולם הזה או מעבר לגבולותיו של האני המוכר - ומעמידים את הזר, המיסתורי, הנשגב, המאיים והמושך כאחת. המטרה העיקרית של השיעור תהיה בחינת האסטרטגיות הלשוניות שהמשוררים נוקטים כדי להכשיר את הלשון המושגית למסור איכויות בלתי מושגיות, אמוציונאליות וחמקמקות - שאינן לפי טיבה. ההנחה היא שמשוררים בני תקופות שונות מוצאים פתרונות דומים להכשרתה של הלשון להביע את הבלתי ניתן להבעה. דרישות השיעור: כתיבת תרגיל, בחינת סיום.

Revealing and Concealing in the Language of Poetry (Biblical Poetry, Hebrew Poetry in Spain, Modern Hebrew Poetry)

Any poetry which deals with a transcendental (metaphysical), unseen or irrational reality needs to confront head-to-head the difficulties of expressing such a reality with the conceptual tools of language. Conceptual language is intimately connected to what stands at the boundary of our mental perception; what lies beyond these bounds is the ineffable. This would seem to lend credence to Wittgenstein’s well-known dictum, “Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent”. However, poets of every age have not only refused to remain silent, but they struggle again and again to express the mysterious, the irrational, the ineffable. This course is devoted to texts which express another reality, one that lies beyond the boundaries of this world, or beyond the boundaries of the known ego. The course’s main objective is to inquire into the linguistic strategies used by poets in order to make conceptual language capable of non-conceptual, emotional, elusive and non-causal qualities. The main underlying assumption of the course is that poets of different ages find similar solutions to making language fit for expressing the inexpressible.
