| This course will provide the basic history of Japanese litreture, starting from Man’yoo (8th Century), poetry through the modern litreture, up to the generation of Mishima Yukio (1970 - ). We will compare the sentiments depicted in the Tale of Genji an Pillow Books, Basho and Kabayashi, Issa. At the end of the course, all the students are requested to give presentations on topics they choose, and write a short paper on a novel or anthology of poetry. Japanese language is not required, but helpful. |
