| The course will introduce the students to the internal structure of words in the languages of the world, to morphological relations, and to morphological processes.
Special attention will be paid to the interface between morphology and syntax and between morphology and phonology, as well as to the fact that the boundaries between these various components of linguistic description are not always easy to define. Among the topics to be discussed are (i) the productivity and predictability of morphological processes, (ii) inflection, derivation and compounding, (iii) affixes and clitics, (iv) noun incorporation and complex predicate formation, (v) approaches to word structure, (vi) lexical phonology, and possibly others (time permitting). Language of instruction: English. However, students may ask questions and write papers in either English or Hebrew. | |
