The Linguistics Department of Tel Aviv University focuses on the theory and analysis of natural languages with the aim of characterizing their universal properties.
The linguists in the department try to find these principals in different aspects of language research: Syntax, Morphology, Phonology, Semantics, Pragmatics, Historical linguistics, Psycholinguistics and Language acquisition.
Linguistic research offers theoretical models of a range of language abilities which together constitute the “language faculty” of human beings. Therefore, it has an essential place in cognitive studies.
The goal of the studies: The Linguistics Department offers its students a broad theoretical perspective, as well as the basic tools and methods of academic research. Accordingly, the teaching program includes essential knowledge for students specializing in several fields of language:
Communication, Teaching languages, Literature, Artificial intelligence, Translation etc.
The Linguistics Department develops in-depth research, as well as an original and exciting teaching program. Its faculty members have an international reputation and its graduates expand their professional training in the leading Universities around the world.
