Unit Head: Prof. Sidney Strauss

The Unit includes researchers in the fields of education, psychology and linguistics and aims to discuss theoretical and methodological problems relating to developmental psychology, and to develop models which enable practical applications of theoretical approaches in developmental psychology.

The Unit deals with the following areas: social and moral development; normal and abnormal language acquisition; development of mathematical, physical and logical concepts; and the development of personality. It undertakes joint research with institutes and universities abroad - MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, and Yale.

Members of the Unit publish books through leading academic publishers and publish in prestigious scientific journals. They serve as consultants to various committees and projects of the Ministry of Education, including the development of teaching programs for hearing-impaired students, mathematics and science curriculum, and an early childhood reading and writing curriculum.

An annual workshop held by the Unit is attended by leading specialists. Presentations are published in an annual series of books.
