Civilian
ethics in a multilingual society
December
15, 2005
Symposium held to launch the publication of the Civil Lexicon for
Pupils in the Arab Education System in Israel by Dr. Amal Jamal. The
lexicon, published in Arabic, includes one hundred concepts of civics
chosen to reflect the experiences of the Arab citizens of Israel, and
is based on activities that took place in the Gilo Center for Citizenship,
Democracy and Civic Education at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
The lexicon provides a meaningful connection between general democratic
principles and the unique heritage and culture of Arab citizens, and
may potentially encourage renewed interest and creation in the areas
