Our society is undergoing significant changes. Scientists talk of an information revolution which is leading towards the creation of a knowledge society. Instead of a society based on materials, products and energy, we are becoming a society whose cultural, economical and social orders will be defined primarily by practical and theoretical knowledge.
It is the education system which is responsible for the dissemination of the most important resource in civilization - the treasures of the human spirit. The knowledge society presents education with new challenges: the democratization of learning, the autonomy of learners and communities, the integration of computers in innovative teaching, the spatial and temporal reorganization of the education system, innovative curriculum planning, etc. The School of Education at Tel Aviv University is addressing these challenges of the knowledge society in the following ways: by training educational leadership towards the 21st century; by carrying out multi-disciplinary research on basic educational questions, and by innovative development and implementation in a wide range of educational areas.
The School of Education cooperates with the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, Exact Sciences, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Engineering, and maintains research links with outstanding institutions of higher education around the world.
This brochure is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the School of Education and its many activities.
