The Archives of Jewish Education in Israel and the Diaspora constitute a
resource
center for the history of Jewish education. It was established in the
1950's by the Teacher's Union who recognized the need to preserve the
documents and papers generated by the educational system
in Israel which had been developing from the beginning of the century when
the first national
secular schools were founded. At the same time the archives are a
depository for the
remnants of materials collected from the many educational systems of
no longer surviving Jewish communities world wide.
Located at Tel Aviv University and run by the School of Education
under the supervision of the State Archivist, the Archives of Jewish
Education work to create links with educators and educational
institutions in Israel and the Diaspora. Teachers, educators, students and
teachers-in-training utilize this rich resource, which includes materials
written and created in the classroom, by teachers and professional
organizations, and in the community.
The collections are professionally stored and catalogued and open to
researchers, subject to accepted procedures.
