General Information
  • The postgraduate orthodontic curriculum is based on the requirements set forth by the European "Erasmus Project".
  • Requirements for admission are the satisfactory completion of studies at an accredited dental school, a license to practice dentistry in your country of origin and proficiency in English.
  • Requirements for Orthodontic certification by Tel Aviv University, are the following:
    Satisfactory fulfillment of :
    1. Pre-clinical preparatory courses
    2. Orthodontic theory and diagnosis
    3. Adjunct didactic courses
    4. Clinical requirements
    5. All examinations
    6. Research project, submission & defense of a Master's thesis
  • The program leads to a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master's in Orthodontics. The department also offers a Ph.D. track. (Upon request candidates with a Ph.D. degree may be exempt from the requirement for the Master's in Orthodontics, but not from a research project.)
  • The duration of the program is three and a half calendar years (40 weeks per year, 40 hours per week). All instruction is in English.
  • The next class is due to commence in October 2008. Registration is open until April 30, 2008.
  • Tuition is at present 19,000 € per year (this includes tuition fee for the Diploma in Orthodontics and the Master's in Orthodontics degree, health insurance and malpractice insurance).
  • The main orthodontic treatment philosophies taught are: Modified Edgewise Technique Straight wire technique (Conventional, self ligating brackets) Lingual Technique Removable & Functional Appliances (Herbst, Clark twin block, Magnets etc.) Invisalign.
  • Cases are selected from a variety of malocclusions and dental ages.
    These include:
    • Mixed dentition cases
    • Permanent dentition cases
    • Cleft palate and handicapped children
    • Adult cases requiring:
      1. Orthodontics only
      2. Multi-disciplinary treatment -
      1. Perio-orthodontic treatment.
      2. Prosthetic-orthodontic treatment.
      3. Orthognathic surgery.
  • Each student will be allocated new cases, active transfer cases and cases in retention. The orthodontic treatment of ten new cases must be completed and fully documented for presentation by each resident.
  • Candidates accepted to the program will be sent details of required instruments, Digital-camera and lap-top computer.
  • A personal interview is suggested, but not mandatory.
