Samir Ben-Layashi organized an international workshop in December 2010 at Jerusalem's Van Leer Institute discussing new approaches to modern Moroccan history, and moderated several panels at the workshop. That same month, Ben-Layashi delivered a paper, "Between the Colonial and Postcolonial Sensitivity: Were the Jews of Morocco Colonized?" at the annual conference of the Association for Jewish Studies (AJS), in Boston.
