Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Scholarships:
These awards are offered in support of studies in programs requiring a thesis
and leading toward either a Master's or Doctoral degree. Approximately 80 scholarships are awarded annually. The scholarships are tenable for two years for
Master's candidates and up to four years for Doctoral candidates, subject to
satisfactory progress. For students not already studying at Dalhousie, a travel

Izaak Walton Killam Postdoctoral Fellowships:
Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded to persons who have completed a Ph.D.
program within the last two years. Approximately four new fellowships are

Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Chairs:
These five Chairs are in post-graduate work in the scientific and engineering
fields as determined by the Board of Governors of Dalhousie University. The
Killam Memorial Professors (holders of the Chairs) are academics of the highest
distinction and are appointed for three-year terms by a committee made up of
the Dean of Graduate Studies, the President, and the Chairman of the Board and
the Dean of the Faculty which includes the department to which the Killam
Professor is to be attached. Renewal will be considered upon the recommendation
of the Dean of the Faculty involved. The awards provide salary replacement.
Faculty of Science Killam Prize:
The Faculty of Science Killam Prize was established in 1994/95 by the Faculty
of Science of Dalhousie University in recognition of the financial support
provided to the Faculty by the Killam Endowment. One prize is awarded annually
to enhance the careers of the most promising scientists in the Faculty of
Science who have obtained their doctorate within the preceding eleven years.
The winners must demonstrate exceptional research ability through their
contributions to scientific knowledge. The prize is accompanied by an award of
$2,000.
Faculty of Science Killam Professorships:
The Faculty of Science Killam Professorships were established in 1994/95 by the
Faculty of Science of Dalhousie University in recognition of the financial
support provided to the Faculty by the Killam Endowment. Up to ten
professorships are awarded to faculty members in the Faculty of Science, for a
term of five years. Their purpose is to recognize the careers of the most
outstanding scientists. The winners must have made outstanding contributions to
their fields. Each professorship is accompanied by an award of $2,000.
