As a result of the events in 1938
the Jewish members of the University of Graz were expelled. In
remmbrance of this and with the aim of contributing the promotion
of tolerance and understanding the University of Graz set up the
David Herzog Fund for the promotion of intercultural understanding
and learning. This was based upon the unanimous resolution of the
Academic Senate of the University on March, 11 th 1988.
The David Herzog Fund awards scholarships to:
- Jewish students wishing to study at one of the Styrian
universities (Karl-Franzens-University Graz, Graz University of
Technology, University of Music and Dramatic Arts Graz, Medical
University Graz, Montanuniversität Leoben) or research
institute on Jewish Studies for usually one semester.
- Austrian students wishing to study at a university in Israel
or another research institute focussing on Jewish Studies for
usually one semester.
- Students or researchers based at universities or research
institutes promoting transnational activities in the framework
of international academic mobility focussing on Jewish Studies.
The aim of David Herzog Fund awards is to promote intercultural
understanding and learning, specially with regard to the Jewish
culture.
The scholarships consits of travel expenses (after consultation
with David Herzog Fund) and a maximum monthly sum of EURO 650,-
for students and EURO 800,-- for graduates.
Decisions relating to the award of David Herzog Fund
scholarships are solely made by the David Herzog Fund committee
with reserves the right to decline applications.
